Tied to the spirit is tied to the land Tied to the spirit is tied to the land Tied to the spirit is tied to the sea Tied to the spirit is tied to the sea Twinned spirit tied to the land Think of your feet on wet sand Sun goes up, sun comes down Salt soaked in tears, sweat and sea Hold on or swim if you can Sun goes up, sun comes down Are we drifting in the right way? The stars seem awfully dark. Sun goes up, sun comes down

Carried over shoulders are backpacks full of hope, wishes and good intentions Climbing under and over limb Through the places we have been We were old before we were even born. Hoping nobody bats an eye when we disappear. All the world we afford, for a breath of air. Fill my lungs, wash away, wash away the fears. Pencil drawings scribbled fault lines on the map Nine years old and old enough to take a leap Tired of running jumping through this concrete jungle gym We’ve become another photo of the latest tragedy We were old before we were even born. Hoping nobody bats an eye when we disappear. We are not fit to play on the trampoline. We will trip on our way, fall and scrape our knees. Time to grief, time to pray, But now it’s time to be… Time to breathe, time to play, But now it’s time to be… Healed

BaBa 04:06
Where are you from? Where are you really from? Faces | Braces | Laces | Traces | Places | Graces | Spaces | Races Hello | Mellow | Marrow | Narrow | Barrel | Shallow | Sallow | Fallow | Hallow | Below My daddy, he’s an astronaut. He’s flying through the air. He’s so young and so scared. He’s scared. My daddy, he called yesterday. Asked if we were good. Said that we just should behave. Where are you from? Where are you really from? My daddy, he is Santa Clause. He comes home once a year. Put gifts under the tree for me. My daddy, he called yesterday. There’s not much left to say. Been gone for so many days. Where are you from? Where are you really from? My daddy... Flying through the air Comes home once a year My daddy... My daddy...

BUSY 01:52
Racing through this jungle with these animals There’s only time to die, but no time to be sick Out with, Out with the old. Fortune favours the bold There’s only time to die, but no time to be sick Let me tell you how busy I am. How busy telling you, I am so busy telling you I’m busy. Let me tell you how busy I am. How busy telling you, I am too busy to tell you I'm busy. Let me tell you how busy I am. How busy telling you, I am so busy telling you I’m busy. Let me tell you how busy I am. How busy telling you, I am too busy to tell you I'm busy. There’s only time to die, but no time to be sick Busy busy building a Busy busy building a Busy busy building a

A hand, an eye, a smile, a cry, tiny bodies sold to feed a family Baby girls in baskets Waiting under willow tree Crying for the birds and For your generosity I will wait, wait for you, do whatever you want me to Travel across the peaceful sea, learn a language I cannot speak Thousand golden pieces for a lifetime of binded feet Ancient piece of jade Hanging heavy on my chest Beckons me to Observe my wifely virtues I will wait, wait for you, do whatever you want me to Travel across the peaceful sea, learn a language I cannot speak Pious daughter Loyal wife Dedicated mother Generations of Obedience will break our backs So many questions Waiting for us to unpack I will wait, wait for you, do whatever you want me to Travel across the peaceful sea, learn a language I cannot speak Cannot speak

i miss you 02:37
I miss you I miss you sitting on the porch. Sipping songs, and drinking thoughts When the smoke settle, I wonder how Song birds fly so far far away I am not there but I am with you I miss you

Thirteen different dreams fitting into hundred square-feet Every new opportunity offers certain uncertainties So much pride just to forget the relations we've never met We have been everywhere Everywhere but home We have been together and Together and alone Marching to brand new prosperities So much left to learn Making our way from our humble home Leave behind our past So much pride just to forget the relations we've never met We have been everywhere Everywhere but home We have been together and Together and alone

about

Twinned Spirits is comprised of songs composed by Nancy Tam for Double Happiness: Detour This Way, a theatricalized song cycle that investigates the complexity of the Chinese diaspora by tracing the journey of two families as they migrate from China, Hong Kong to finally land in the Pacific Northwest. This autoethnographic staged performance is co-led with Only A Visitor's bandleader Robyn Jacob.

Twinned Spirits is a sister album to Only a Visitor's Technicolour Education: onlyavisitor.bandcamp.com/album/technicolour-education
